Sony PS4 supports used games with no restrictions, does not require Internet connection for authentication

Taking the complete opposite stance from Microsoft, Sony unveiled some details of the PS4 to massive applause.
The PlayStation 4 will not impose any restrictions on used games. Sony says if you own the game, it is your right to trade it in, sell it to a friend, play it on another PS4, whatever you choose.

Additionally, you will not need an Internet connection for authentication, ever, and you can play your single player games without interruption for as long as you want.

Microsoft, on the other hand, requires authentication every 24 hours.

Well done, Sony.

Looks like I may go PS4 eventually. Loved my PS2 but skipped the PS3 because of the price and PSN security issues but I think they may have won me back.

Knowing Balmer he's going to tough out that price point, justify it by somehow saying it's valued because of kinect hence the $100 difference: nevermind that PS+ users get 4 games for PSIV right off launch, while XBL Gold get what (that's what I thought)

If he uses the Kinect to promote value then he is insane. I am not sure how anyone can think the required Kinect is a good thing.

Looks like somebody was somewhat listening to its' customer base.

It's kind of hard not too, when they made it SOOO easy. I was surprised Sony just didn't come out and say TY MS for making this war easy....

He stuck by Windows 8 on mobile devices... I can see him push kinect because what else is there? XBL offers less than PS+ $ for $ in value. 360 is as it stands imo heavily restricted; (to which I hope the hacking community corrects), and finally there is nothing else in the hardware to warrant a $100 difference other than Kinect unit itself, which has some decent camera's and mic's installed. (Insane to promote it? No.... That's exactly what he needs to do. Get more press on Rabbids TV, get Sesame Street to showcase for it too; attract the kids with smart innovative programs and games with Kinect and you win a good chunk of stupid parents)

I have been xbox since 2001 and fully drank the kool aid. This gen has me at a ouya and ps4. MS completely destroyed the only thing that actually made them money now. Foolish.

I was planning on weighing both console options heavily this time. After seeing the price point and what you get out the box, I was leaning toward the PS4. Now that PS4 will support used game sales, I'm on their side all the way. I don't buy disc-based games new. I usually wait for a while until they come down at least $20. As long as console games exist, this is how I will purchase games. Or I wait until my friend finishes with a game or let's me borrow it for a while. When that system goes away, consoles die in my household.

Before this press conference I HATED, let me reiterate HATED Sony. After the PS3 fiasco with the other OS, the PSN hack, withholding the amount of data stolen and the PSVITA having like 3 good games out I couldn't stand them, BUT and a big but that is, I was completely blown away by what they said and showed. It was so consumer based that it was mind blowing and there were just soooooo many games. They have totally redeemed themselves in my eyes and I preordered their system right away. I did also get the Xbox One because I'm a collector but I believe I will be spending the most time with the PS4, plus it just looks so good. This is going to be an amazing holiday season!

Congratulations Sony.
